Pelvic phleboliths are stones found within the pelvic veins. Their incidence is higher in all ethnic groups in developed countries, suggesting that they are due to environmental rather than to genetic causes. The pathology may result from low fibre diets, chronic constipation and straining to pass stools, causing compression of the veins. There are no reports in great apes (?).
