At a very basic level, perception refers to the manner in which an organism gains information from itself or the environment. Perception can occur through any of the senses, vision, audition, olfaction, tactile or taste. Perception can also refer to the state of awareness or the act of becoming aware, however, in many cases, we may become aware of something without any knowledge of how, so some aspects of perception can be unconscious.
